walls and iniquities..

 walls of iniquities

We continuously question the present situation of our dear town reckoning the past in order to bring back the sense of belongingness to our community and families, or to look back at least from its effective and great achievements including their values... One big significant were the negligence of the very heart of our town like some historical sites, done by the underdevelopment of PPA or the Philippine Port Authority authored by no other than the devious motives and torpidity of an executive order with its obvious flaws and unfounded assertions.

There are other iniquities in Culion that are not properly addressed or were simply neglected. So we are oblige to plainly speak the truth like this question of leadership and address realistically the program to resolve these concerns in solving the alarming lies of plundering disorders. Like the power shortage, the problem of water system, the sea and coral reef destruction through its illegal and rampant dynamite fishing, the illegal kaingin system, very weak income production, very low infrastructure development around the place, inaccessible roads to remote areas, the fire brigade and services, the 'bantay kalikasan' programs raising public awareness and understanding on environmental issues and concerns plus the effective enforcement of relevant ecological policies and laws... Not to mention the cancer of poverty.

These are the basic if not the major concern of the place now. So we really need to work hard, cooperate with each other plus the willingness to change our community and ourselves, to be able to transform and correct what is wrong in our town. Through empowerment, community development, education and values reform…

roads to perdition

Another big significant issue is the looming sinister of land grabbing or illegal land titling, in the guise of ‘cadastral’ that should be guided by Republic Act (RA) 9032 identifying the land areas and its indigenous surrounding and protecting the rare endemic species of flora and fauna namely the pangolin or ‘Manis Culionensis’ and the dinosaur of the plant kingdom called Cycas Wadei locally known as ‘Pitogo’, named after its founder Dr. Wade who dedicated his life to serve Culion. A kind of destruction of their habitat and territories, grabbing their nesting places and sources of foods. The invasion of its natural habitat only endangered the heritage sites losing its conservation purposes where we can benefit in possible scientific discoveries and the tourism development. That in our big surprise the local government didn't even find a pen to sign the pending ordinance made by the former councilors supported by the Peoples Council of Culion submitted to them 2 years ago stating the preservation and protection of the said habitat and specie… plus of course the unfathomable issue of boundaries and territorial jurisdiction of our beloved town.
